Women around the world continue to face immense barriers in media outlets and journalism organizations. Gender bias, harassment, inadequate representation, and lack of resources are among the many challenges that female journalists face. To address this issue, it is crucial to establish an organization that would provide support and address the pressing concerns of women journalists.
Fostering Equality and Advocacy
The Female Journalist Network Nigeria has had a significant impact on promoting gender equality in journalism. Female journalists will have a platform to share their experiences, build connections and access resources that will enable them to thrive in their careers. The organization will also advocate for gender-sensitive reporting, fair representation in the media, and the elimination of harassment and discrimination within the industry.
Empower, Educate, Mentor and Showcase
We have a network of female journalists across the country. FJN organizes workshops, conferences, and seminars for skill-building and knowledge-sharing. We also provide mentorship programs for young and aspiring female journalists while Collaborating with existing journalism organizations to address common challenges affecting female journalists in Nigeria. Provide opportunities for members to showcase their works and gain visibility.

Joy Rademene Asonye
President, Female Journalist Network
Joy Rademene Asonye is a seasoned journalist with a passion for development journalism. With over 12 years of experience in the field, she has established herself as a prominent figure in Nigerian media. Her dedication to amplifying the voices of the vulnerable and underserved communities has made her a highly respected journalist. Throughout her career, Joy has worked with reputable media organizations, including The Nigerian Television Authority and Don Pedro Media, where she honed her skills and gained invaluable experience.
Currently, she serves as the Producer and Presenter of Joy Asonye Live on KaftanTV, a program that focuses on issues of national importance with a particular emphasis on sustainable development goals. In addition to her work on KaftanTV, Joy anchors Aso Morning, the breakfast show on Aso Radio and Television. Her ability to engage viewers with insightful interviews, dynamic discussions, and thought-provoking analysis has earned her a loyal following. Beyond her academic accomplishments, which include a degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja and a diploma in Mass Communication, Joy has pursued further education in media development, evident through her numerous certificates in the field.
Her commitment to continuous learning is reflected in the high quality of her reporting and the innovative approaches she brings to her work. Joy is also an ardent advocate for women and youth empowerment. Through her journalism, she sheds light on their challenges, champions their causes, and strives to create platforms for their voices to be heard. Hadiza Onido
Vice President, Female Journalist Network
Hadiza Onido is a Columnist Public affairs analyst and a Reporter. Her area of interest is gender relations, peace building, culture and transitional justice. She is the Women Page columnist NUJ The Defender Magazine which is a publication of The National Secretariat of The Nigeria Union of Journalists. She was an author and Reporter 21st Century Chronicle and also a guest columnist on Blueprint newspaper and The Nation newspaper. She was also Communication Consultant for the British Council on Re integration of low-risk associates of insurgents in the BAY state.
She Holds postgraduate degrees in Conflict Peace and Strategy, International Affairs and Strategy, and Leadership and Strategic Studies. She is a currently a Research Fellow of Nigeria Defense Academy.
