Women around the world continue to face immense barriers in media outlets and journalism organizations. Gender bias, harassment, inadequate representation, and lack of resources are among the many challenges that female journalists face. To address this issue, it is crucial to establish an organization that would provide support and address the pressing concerns of women journalists.

Fostering Equality and Advocacy

The Female Journalist Network Nigeria has had a significant impact on promoting gender equality in journalism. Female journalists will have a platform to share their experiences, build connections and access resources that will enable them to thrive in their careers. The organization will also advocate for gender-sensitive reporting, fair representation in the media, and the elimination of harassment and discrimination within the industry.

Empower, Educate, Mentor and Showcase

We have a network of female journalists across the country. FJN organizes workshops, conferences, and seminars for skill-building and knowledge-sharing. We also provide mentorship programs for young and aspiring female journalists while Collaborating with existing journalism organizations to address common challenges affecting female journalists in Nigeria. Provide opportunities for members to showcase their works and gain visibility.

Joy Asonye

Joy Rademene Asonye

President, Female Journalist Network Nigeria

Joy Rademene Asonye is a dedicated Nigerian journalist with over 12 years of experience in development journalism. She passionately highlights the voices of vulnerable and underserved communities, earning respect across the media landscape. Joy has honed her skills at esteemed organizations like The Nigerian Television Authority and Don Pedro Media.

Currently, she produces and presents Joy Asonye Live on KaftanTV, focusing on national issues and sustainable development goals. Additionally, Joy hosts Aso Morning on Aso Radio and Television, where her insightful interviews and engaging discussions have built a loyal audience.

Joy holds a Sociology degree from the University of Abuja and a diploma in Mass Communication, complemented by various certifications in media development. She is a strong advocate for women and youth empowerment, using her platform to champion their causes and amplify their stories. Joy’s integrity and commitment to ethical journalism make her a trusted and inspiring figure in Nigerian media.

Hadiza Onido

Vice President, Female Journalist Network Nigeria

Hadiza Onido is a seasoned columnist, public affairs analyst, and reporter specializing in gender relations, peacebuilding, culture, and transitional justice. She writes the Women Page for The Defender Magazine of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and has contributed to Blueprint and The Nation newspapers. Hadiza also served as a Communication Consultant for the British Council, focusing on the reintegration of low-risk insurgents in Bayelsa State.

Holding postgraduate degrees in Conflict Peace and Strategy, International Affairs and Strategy, and Leadership and Strategic Studies, she is currently a Research Fellow at the Nigeria Defense Academy. Hadiza’s insightful analysis and dedication to societal issues make her a respected voice in Nigerian media.
